“Trenne nie st. Es tut ihm weh”란 문장은 ‘ST 사이에 하이픈은 없다/ 아니, 이건 있을 수 없는 일이야’로 해석할 수 있으며 독일 속담 중 하나이자 줄을 바꿀 때 S와 T사이를 띄지 말고 항상 붙여 쓰라는 문법 규칙이다. 이 포스터에서 S와 T는 서독과 동독을 나타내는 ‘West’와 ‘Ost’의 한 부분이다. 그래서 오래된 문법규칙은 West와 East를 떨어뜨려 놓아선 안 된다는 것을 확실히 보여준다. ‘OST’란 글자는 동독이 모든 사람에게 거울의 형상처럼 서독 지역에 속해 있다는 것을 강조하기 위해 거울에 비친 듯 표현됐다

Es tut ihm weh“ can freely be translated as "Never hyphenate -st- /No, this cannot ever be" and is a German proverb and grammar rule that tells students not to split up a word between the letters s and t when arriving a line break but always write those two letters together. In this poster s and t are parts of the words “West” and “Ost” that mean West (Germany) and East (Germany). Thus, an old grammar rule is used to make clear that West and East should not be split up. The word “ost” is mirrored to underline that it belongs to the western part of Germany like a mirror image to every person. |
