국경선을 넘다 희생된 자

독일 국경 체계란 이슈가 공공담론에서 자취를 감추게 되자 작가는 서독 영토로 진입하다가 죽은 난민들에 대한 처리가 얼마나 잔인한 지 강조하려고 노력했다. 국경을 넘으려던 사람들과 그들의 헛된 수고를 기념하는 장소가 베를린에 몇 군데 있지만 오늘날 대부분의 사람들은 이 나라를 나눴던 전체 국경선 대신에 베를린 장벽만을 기억하고 있다. 국경을 넘다 죽은 희생자 약 900명을 대표하여 172개의 이름과 그들의 생일과 사망일, 출생지, 사망 원인이 국경선 모양으로 배치했다. 작가는 사람들이 희생자를 오직 통계숫자로서뿐만 아니라 개개인의 죽음으로서 기억할 수 있도록 노력했다.

Death victims shaping the border course

Since the issue of the German border regime has only little presence in the public discourse anymore, the artist tried to emphasize the brutality of the treatment of refugees trying to access Western territory. Although there are a few memorial places in Berlin for the people who tried to overcome the border and whose attempts were in vain, most people today only remember the Berlin Wall instead of the whole borderline that divided the country. Representing the approximately 900 death victims of the border 172 names and their dates of birth and death, as well as their origins and cause of death are modeling the course of the border. The artist tried to make people keeping in mind the victims not only as statistical figures, but also as personal fates.
